On encountering successive failures, Rajesh Manchanda sets out to create his biggest play ever, casting his own son, Ayan. "City of Stars" revolves around Ayan's desire to become a successful actor and Rajesh's to create a legendary play. Their relationship starts to degrade when Ayan is faced with Rajesh's unorthodox ways of training. To what extent will Rajesh go for his play? Will he sacrifice his family or his desire? In their world full of dreams, what happens when they face the reality?

Ilhaam revolves around a middle-aged banker named Bhagwan, living a predictably mundane life with his wife and his 10-year-old daughter. His family life is uneventful and his job gets his bills paid. Things begin spiraling out of control when his past starts seeping back into his head. Therein also begin his internal conflict - he is torn between a world of his fantasies and his family. His charade is finally broken when his family learns he lost his job a month ago. What ensues is a man's sincere struggle to keep a hold on both of his worlds and how he faces the inevitable situation of choosing between them.
